ヤコブの手紙5：12

罪人である私達に使徒ヤコブは
「わたしたちの兄弟達何よりもまず、誓いを立ててはなりません。」
“何よりもまず、誓いを立ててはならない”と強調しています。

キリスト者として勝手に約束したり、
しなかったりするのは止めなさい。
約束したなら必ず守るべきであるという御言葉ではありませんか。
聖約・約束とは、神との約束です。
だけど、罪人である私達人間は弱いので、
これをよく守らないですね。今日ヤコブ使徒が伝える御言葉は、
イエス様の山上の教え、

「誓ってはならない」（マタイ５章）

と、その通りに教えています。
イエス様は本当に誓ってはならないと教えられたのでしょうか。
キリスト者の正しい誓いこそ素直なキリスト者の信仰告白であり、
自分が誓った通り行う事によって、
主なる神様と共に謙虚な信仰生活を送ることになり、
神様はその敬虔な生活を祝福してくださいます。
私達の信仰も神様に誓いながら、
その誓いを素直に守る事、これが聖書の言わんとする処です。
自己中心の軽い誓いは、主なる神様を冒涜する行為です。
信仰の良心に従って然りは然り、
否は否と素直な信仰生活をするのが良いと、
ヤコブ使徒は教えています。
